We are looking for 
A senior researcher water quality with profound knowledge of the interactions between agricultural practices, soil management, leaching and runoff of water and nutrients and resulting (ground)water quality and with a high affinity with model development and application. You are able to initiate scientific innovations, publish results in both scientific as well as impact-oriented media and translate results in clear conclusions and recommendations for agriculture and environmental policy. You initiate, and contribute to, the acquisition of new research projects based on innovative ideas and represent WENR in external commissions and working groups. To succeed in this role, you need to be a team-player, need a customer and result-oriented attitude as well as strong affinity with water quality modelling, soils and agricultural nutrient management.

We ask
We are looking for a candidate that:

  • Has a PhD in hydrology, environmental sciences, agronomy, soil science or a related science
  • Has extensive experience with process model development and application
  • Has the proven ability to acquire large (inter)national projects
  • Has at least 5-10 years of experience as a project manager in a project organisation
  • Has an extensive (inter)national network relevant for this function
  • Has excellent verbal and writing skills in English and Dutch
  • Has strong social and communicative skills

We offer
A position in scale 12 (starting with € 3736,- gross to a maximum of € 5608,-) depending on your knowledge and experience. Excellent secondary terms of employment, for example a structural -end-of- year bonus and flexibility in many respects. This position will be for 36 hours per week, for a period of two years with a prospect for a permanent employment contract after proven suitability for this position.

The team Sustainable Soil Management consists of 32 employees and is one of the research teams within Wageningen Environmental Research (WENR). The mission of the team is to contribute to improved soil management practices and soil quality for the benefit of resource use efficiency, biodiversity, climate change mitigation and water- and air quality. We focus on the chemical, biological and hydrological processes in soils and the way these processes are influenced by climate (change), land use and soil- and nutrient management.
