Prediction models form the essence of personalized and risk based medicine. They are developed to predict in an individual patient the risk of having or developing a certain health outcome or treatment response, based on the patient’s characteristics or test results. There are tens of thousands of clinical prediction models published, they appear every day on websites and in medical apps, and the expectation is that this will only increase in the era of big (routine care) data availability and machine learning. Moreover, routine care (or real world) data and machine learning techniques are also increasingly used for evaluation of the effectiveness of medical treatments. The question is how to judge the quality and applicability of such data sources both for the evaluation of prediction models and of medical interventions. The aim of this methodological project is to perform systematic reviews of the current status of prediction model and medical intervention studies that used routine care data and machine learning techniques. Subsequently we will develop tools to judge the quality and usefulness of routine care data and machine learning techniques for addressing prediction models and effectiveness of medical interventions. You will be stationed and supervised in the team Epidemiology Methods and Cochrane Netherlands, of the Julius Center in the UMC Utrecht.
You will be working in the department of Epidemiology, team Methods of Epidemiological research and Cochrane Netherlands, in the Julius Center of the UMC Utrecht, which evaluates and develops new research methods with a focus on prediction model and intervention research. You will become part of an energetic, enthusiastic team of more than 100 PhD researchers with different backgrounds. The Julius Center has an extensive network, both nationally and internationally.
You have a MSc in (clinical) epidemiology, biostatistics, or in data sciences with a focus on medicine. You have clear interest in the methodology of clinical research. You also are able to work in teams and communicate your ideas with peers. Written and spoken fluency in English is required, and fluency in Dutch would be an advantage.
The maximum salary for this position (100%) is € 3.020,00 gross per month based on full-time employment (work week 36 hours). This job is based on a temporary position for 3 years.
